Option blocks
- One less option block this year to accommodate;
- Government requirement of 2 periods of PE for all pupils (Parent/pupil voice and
- OFSTED)
- Statutory requirement for a qualification in ICT for all pupils – (2 periods a week)
Science
- One group following the triple science examination – biology, physics and chemistry.
- This group will be identified by the science department based on aptitude and ability.
- Pupils following the triple science and the accelerated programme will have one option choice - pathway is for pupils who have a keen interest and ability in
- Science and who wish to pursue Science post sixteen/Career
- Other pupils who follow triple science will have two option choices
- The majority of pupils will follow dual award Science.
- This will not hinder pupils from studying sciences at As or A level.
- The majority of pupils in this country follow dual award.
- One further group will follow the single award science programme.
- This will be supported by a more vocational pathway and option choices.
Guidance and Choices
- All year nine pupils will have a careers interview between December and February.
- PSE Programme will support the decision making process
- Staff will talk to pupils about the variety of pathways in their subjects.
- IPM and assessment data inform you of your progress and targets.

- Size of groups – health and safety implications
- Pupils make preference choices and indicate reserve choices – no pupil will lose more than one first preference.
- School is committed to all pupils across the ability range to make the best choices for them.
Guidance given to your daughters
- Talk to your parents, staff and other adults about your choices.
- Ask if you are not sure!
- Think carefully about why you are choosing a subject
- Start to think about what you want to do when you leave Sacred Heart and how you choices will support that.
